The First Invitation

February 1994

The first invitation was, at first glance, an article torn from a newspaper. It was on newsprint and had print on both sides (above is the obverse of the invitation); it was torn, not cut, from its parent sheet. Five people were invited to this, and, through an oversight, only four were told to expect an invitation. The fifth, a gentleman who will always be dear to the heart of the Grand Fromage, came simply because he saw “drinks [and] cigars” and the location of the event. No man has ever shown greater faith to a cause yet to be known.

A later invitation announcing a display of presidential humidors was tabled, and perhaps its time has passed. The targets of this type of satire are ephemeral as one can see from the names in this invitation. Perhaps if a display of humidors could be combined with a showing of presidential furniture, such an invitation might still be spread among the Mice. Time will tell.
